A Differnet Perspective

Greetings from the East Coast. I am writing as long time Irish Fan from New Hampshire. I, as many of you, have struggled watching the season unfold. Every season begins with the hopes of a BSC and a national championship.Unfortunately, this season will not bear that fruit. However, I do see some good things, and it is why I offer a different perspective on Coach Weis.

This years team has demonstrated hard work, perseverance, and a drive to help get ND back to the national stage. Yes I know they have fallen short and lost games that they shouldn't have. On the other hand they won a couple they should not have. I remember sitting in my living room watching previous coaches lose games they should not have, but lose them in an ugly fashion. Lack of heart, organization, and desire was a staple of Davies and Willingham's teams after the honeymoon period ended. Yet I do not see that with this team. They play hard for Coach Weis and that is what I choose to hang my hat on.

Coach Weis and his staff have brought in an excellent array of offensive talent at the skills position. The defense is starting to get young, athletic recruits committing, and with time will grow into a great unit. It is not the ND of old folks. Florida, Alabama, USC, Texas, and a host of other programs offer great tradition, mystic, and pride. Gone are the days of ND, Miami, USC, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and a throw in from the Big Ten challenging for the National Championship. With the BSC system, it is harder to get to the big game. TCU? Boise St? Teams that never had a chance before are now in the top 5 without having to play anyone in the top ten. They also belong to a conference, which ND has to decide whether that or TV revenues are most important. In my opinion, an independent will have a tough time playing for a National Title. Pitt has had a great year and cannot crack the top 5.???

I for one hope they give Coach Weis another year. Who's coming folks??? Is Urban Myer coming, Nick Saban? Pete Carroll? Nope, why would they?

I wonder if UCLA had fired John Wooden or the Bulls traded Michael Jordan early in their careers if we would look at them today as we do. Would they have been as successful? They got support and the one thing Irish fans are not good at...patience. I am not suggesting that Coach Weis will acheive these heights, but how do we know? He deserve another year. A coach from Cincinnati or where ever will not come in and win the championship in the next 2-3 years. So why change?

Let's see where it goes folks.  What other choices are there?

  • To late for CW, but very good perspective. Your very right the ND folks have no patience and less time for logical perspectives.
