Unlike Pearl Harbor - this is not a "sneak attack" on the BCS - they were warned!
The sixth College Football Championship Series, "CFCS-VI", title game for the "2009" NCAA Division 1-A (FBS) "playoff season" and susequent "Invitational" will be played in the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday night, Jan. 10, 2010. - Out of "25 eligible and qualified teams" the following "16" were invited to participate in "CFCS VI". - Succeeding the "first round" of play, the line-up for the "second round" by location is:
ND'ers, I'm watching Pitt absolutely DESTROY Cincinnati. Cincinnati has no defense and today their offense is terrible. Why would the best program in the country settle for a guy who can't beat Pitt? ND will have another 5 years of terrible defense and will get destroyed in bowl games.

To the University Notre Dame du Lac:
Please consider this an application for the football head coaching position.
I have never coached a football game in my life so I do not have any bad habits to break. The first thing that I would try to instill in the players would be a killer instinct. And that is the thing most lacking in the previous coaches game plan. That and physical and mental toughness. The players would be more afraid of me than the opposition if they players do not put out the best effort. Never give up, Never give in and Never feel sorry for yourself. And I would accept offers in excess of $150,000.00 but with lots of performance clauses. I would accept a three year contract.
I would hire the best assistant coaches that can be had for each position. The first person I would approach as an assistant would be Daniel Reutiger (Sp?). He would be in charge of toughness, attitude and effort. I would then ask Joe Montana to coach the quarterback. Jerome Bettis to do the running backs. Mark Bavaro the tight ends. Rocket Ishmael to do the wide outs. Tom Clements to be the offensive coordinator.
For the defense, Bob Golic for linebackers. Well you get the idea.
Bring back Lou Holtz, and give him a four year contract so that he has time to bring in great recruits. Also bring back Skip Holtz to take over after the four years; which will help entice Lou to come back. As you know, he would bring in a top defensive coordinator to fix the mess. The AD, and the rest should keep their mouth shut and let him run the program.
This past summer I saw an ESPN special on Turner Gill, Head coach at Univ of Buffalo and how he was passed over for the coaching position at Clemson, possibly due to his being an African American, when he was " more than qualified". The special detailed his strong character, impeccable ethics and his strength as a great recruiter. I wonder if he is or should be on ND's radar.
I think the real issue that ND has to deal with in finding a new coach is to get someone who will bring some real enthusiasm to the field. I never felt CW had that and I am not saying that as a knock on Charlie as I believe that it is just not part of his make-up. He really tries to be like BB from New England. Notre Dame has the players and will continue to get them so that is not an issue, we just need someone to come in and get them to do their jobs (tackling, blocking) better. A lot of names are being thrown out there and I am not one to say this guy might be better than that guy as there are a LOT of coaches out there who are doing great things with little talent...where is Bobby Knight when we need him! But going back to the main point is we need someone who can bring enthusiasm to not only the players but maybe to the 80,000 plus in the stands. ND crowds are boring and make little if any noise. Rockne stadium use to be an intimidating place but not now. It needs to get back to that and it starts with the guy who leads them out on to the field.
I have been a big fan of Notre Dame football for over 45 years and what I still do not understand is why so many coaches are hired. Then if they do not produce a National champship people start talking about them before the season is over as to who should replace them. When Charlie came to Notre Dame he did something that no other coach had done and that was at the end of the game have all the players go to the student section for the sining of the school songs. I heard many television new stories from bussiness that said that this year there has been an increase of people spending the weekend here for the game. When was the last time you could get tickets for the game. And you have to admit this season had a lot of good down to the wire games. Notre Dame now has the highest percentage points of kids graduating then any other university and Charlie has helped do that. Do not forget Charlie is not the only one out on that field. Its all the coaches and the football players too. Charlie needs to stay because he has recruited these kids and more that are coming . You do not make a great team in a few seasons. I would say that the defense is getting better the last few games but if they fire Charlie do not expect any National title because it will take a long time when you start over. The Florida State coach and Penn State coaches have been their for years and had some great years and some bad years but were never asked to leave. Why is it all about the money and taking the advice of some rick Notre Dame alumi who will not give the school money if they keep him. For those who make the decision remember you are a catholic school and do the right thing and keep Charlie at least until his contract is up. Charlie is a great coach and if you do not keep him some other great university will take him and watch they will win a National title. Also remember that when you bring kids from all different schools and were coached diferently then ask a few coaches to have them play one way it takes a while. I frankly think getting the best is the worse idea. Because it is mostly the walk ons that want to play and do the great job. This team of football players never seemed to want a win bad enough to go after it.
Greetings from the East Coast. I am writing as long time Irish Fan from New Hampshire. I, as many of you, have struggled watching the season unfold. Every season begins with the hopes of a BSC and a national championship.Unfortunately, this season will not bear that fruit. However, I do see some good things, and it is why I offer a different perspective on Coach Weis.
This years team has demonstrated hard work, perseverance, and a drive to help get ND back to the national stage. Yes I know they have fallen short and lost games that they shouldn't have. On the other hand they won a couple they should not have. I remember sitting in my living room watching previous coaches lose games they should not have, but lose them in an ugly fashion. Lack of heart, organization, and desire was a staple of Davies and Willingham's teams after the honeymoon period ended. Yet I do not see that with this team. They play hard for Coach Weis and that is what I choose to hang my hat on.
Coach Weis and his staff have brought in an excellent array of offensive talent at the skills position. The defense is starting to get young, athletic recruits committing, and with time will grow into a great unit. It is not the ND of old folks. Florida, Alabama, USC, Texas, and a host of other programs offer great tradition, mystic, and pride. Gone are the days of ND, Miami, USC, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and a throw in from the Big Ten challenging for the National Championship. With the BSC system, it is harder to get to the big game. TCU? Boise St? Teams that never had a chance before are now in the top 5 without having to play anyone in the top ten. They also belong to a conference, which ND has to decide whether that or TV revenues are most important. In my opinion, an independent will have a tough time playing for a National Title. Pitt has had a great year and cannot crack the top 5.???
I for one hope they give Coach Weis another year. Who's coming folks??? Is Urban Myer coming, Nick Saban? Pete Carroll? Nope, why would they?
I wonder if UCLA had fired John Wooden or the Bulls traded Michael Jordan early in their careers if we would look at them today as we do. Would they have been as successful? They got support and the one thing Irish fans are not good at...patience. I am not suggesting that Coach Weis will acheive these heights, but how do we know? He deserve another year. A coach from Cincinnati or where ever will not come in and win the championship in the next 2-3 years. So why change?
Let's see where it goes folks. What other choices are there?
Charlie was a great offensive coordinator when he knew what the defense was going to call ( see spygate) . Coincidence that since he has done.........................................
I have supported this man until the Navy game-how sad it was to sit and watch--NOTHING-The man as well as the man in charge of the defense both refused to alter their game plans"come hell or high water" How sad it is to watch a talented group of players --run that damned draw play. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH--oLD iRISH FROM iOWA
I want to begin by saying I am not much of a Notre Dame fan, however I do love College Football. Clearly with the talent you have year in and year out there is no reason why your record is worse than 10-2. Your next coach should be Mike Belloti who is now the Athletic Director at Oregon! Here's why:
1) The Team Oregon has this year is his players.
2) Phil Knight (Nike) wanted him to retire so he could keep the rights to Chip Kelly who is the up and coming Coach.
3) Belloti wanted to stay on for one more year but Phil gave him the boot for the young guy.
4) What a perfect opportunity for Notre Dame? Look at his tenure at Oregon. His Staff, Tedford at California, half the coaches at Boise State came from his staff?
Why do I give you this great piece of advise? I went to Arizona and have been a Beaver fan all my life, there is nothing the Duck fans would hate more that Belloti goes to ND and has a National Champion within Two years.
Good Luck
Goodbye Notre Dame. After 60 years of cheering, praying and watching I am through. How can the administration at ND let the tail wag the dog? Alumni wants a winner fire the coach. Is something gone wrong here? Three good men have tried to win at ND. Are they all losers? No just caught in the insane world of ND football. Why not fire the President, AD,equipment manager, janitor until you find the coach from lala land. Coach Weis is a class coach who I wish had coached my sons. Abput 70percent of the losers that always want to fire the coach never played college football. Why would anybody coach at Notre Dame? Job security? Support? Do you really think the Cinci coach will leave? Ask the TCU coach. Anew coach means three or fours years of ass kickings until he recruits his team and they mature. Hey who wants to play for a school that fires its coach evry five years?Go ahead shake the crap from the skies old Notre Dame is gone forever and so am I.

I have had enough. Tenuta has not done anything since being Corso's biggest recruit 2 years ago. I was with Paul Johnson who is now at Ga Tech and he said there was no way he was keeping him. Why are we so lucky to have him. It was as if ND was playing a team that just likes to run and practiced this week on that and NOT a team that runs a triple threat option. Does anyone have Urban's cell phone number. or Maybe Charlie's son who apparently is preparing to coach at the next level as he is on the sidelines every game with headset on and ready to call plays. What a joke. Swarbick better be prepared to make changes NOW, and Weis should resign. Our defense is digusting. I love ND too much to go through this every season. You see a team like Ga Tech who has similar academic standards and they have been better than us for years.
Close, but again, no cigar. Why can't we open it up more guys. I'm sick and tired of losing to top ten talent. At least we played
USC tough to the finish! As usual, the running game was not quality. My hats off to the team, they never gave up. USC was a tough
opponent, with just enough more skilled players to beat us.
Ok, now that we know Michael Floyd is back on the practice field, the timing of this makes you wonder...........and you know it is definitely on the radar now for a certain team from Southern California! Whether on purpose or not, the mere presence of Michael Floyd on the practice field is a stroke of genius. Who knows the level of distraction this will bring the Trojans but make no mistake, it will garner attention. Let's take it a step further....what if Floyd dresses? What if Floyd actually lines up in the game just as a decoy, not to block or catch a pass, you can't just leave him alone can you? He will and already has caused a major distraction. This will be fun to keep an eye on. Go Irish!!!
lets play third down better get these unranked teams keep from marching down the field on us. we need someone to step up and replace floyd instead of doing it by commity. evans ,kamara or parrish.a threat the whole game, hats off to huuuuughes for coming through and stepping up. kyle m and mant`i too.great job and lot more wrapping up on tackles.thats the bad on D BUT KUDO`S for the goal line stops and that last hit was going to be in that guys head every time he goes over the middle. go irish beat usc NOTRE DAME OUR MOTHER PRAY FOR US
I don't really know what to say yet.
I am kind of beside myself.
