      yes ND needs to join.  tradition, history is great but economics and reality is unfortunately controlling.

      everyone is only thinking football - but ND is more than just football, if we are to continue competing in all sports - basketball, baseball, hockey, track etc everything must be considered.

      plus with the changes who will ND be left to play?  also what about the bcs?

      i'm afraid if ND doesn't join history will repeat itself - look at b'ball prior to the big east!!  pl

      Like most other Fighting Irish Fans ,I would like Notre Dame to stay Independent forever. Unfortunately, there is a possibility out there that threatens Notre Dames indepedence. Right now Notre Dame has the best possible scenario. Football independency, and the rest of their sports are in the Big East. Great. Great as long as the Big East remains the status quo.       Not with Mike Brey as head coach  , he doesn't know how to control a lead . 1 and out in tournament play every year . All the other N.D. teams , hockey , soccer and especially women's basketball are successful . 

      Hopefully when Swarbrick said he will review all the ND teams he will realize Men's Basketball is the weak link and replace Brey . How is it that Purdue who can't recruit like ND is doing exceptionally well ? Now big east play is in full swing what can we expect ?<

      Reefrunner, You are dead on with this one, hat's off to you (hope the shine from my chrome dome doesn't diminish the lustour of sacred Golden Dome).

      This is quite a feat for a school from a small midwestern town. Especially one that boulsters three high caliber programs of note: Ice Hockey, Baseball and Womens Baskeball, a mediocre Men's Baketball Program and a piss-poor "Football Program". Not to take away from other programs in the Athletic Department, these are the limelight sports.

      With the NFL putting a limit to the salaries the rookies sign for after next year he would be losing millions if he doesn't go next year . There will be an influx of juniors jumping to the next level . If he decides to stay he would be taking a major risk with an injury and losing his NFL shot !       How about that ND hockey team.  A number 2 overall seed, and number 1 in the Midwest. I'm not a huge hockey fan, but it is exciting to have a NCAA tournament to look forward to in March.

      They made it to the championship as a 4 seed last year...this could be their year!
